Global Youth Leadership Camp

jennywiththaiyouthThe Global Youth Leadership Camp is considered an intermediate act that focuses primarily on youth personal and leadership development. This second level of BTF programming is the camp model. BTF camps promote positive youth leadership development through experiential learning methods. The curriculum promotes core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, citizenship, and perseverance. Our camping model includes youth engagement with community members, schools, and families to promote mutual learning and knowledge construction. Typically BTF camps last from 2 to 7 days, and are facilitated by BTF board members, fellows, and volunteers. Information about our two-day camp in Samut Sakhon will provide an example of a BTF intermediate program.

Developing Dreams and Challenging Assumptions: Thasai, Samut Sakhon PDF Print E-mail

chalalai_fellowBrighter Thailand Coordinator Chalalai Rojroong, selected twenty youth from local schools in Thasai sub district to engage in challenge and leadership activities. The leadership team kicked off day one asking youth to consider their role in teams through the “human knot” activity.

Youth had fun engaging this activity and quickly discovered that their success depended upon their ability to effectively communicate with one another. The teams found that when a clear leader emerged, their ability to become untangled rapidly increased. The leadership team processed this activity and discovered that the youth truly understood the value of cooperation and communication in “untangling” difficult situations in life.
